  1. The average yield in most diamond mines is 1 part diamond to 1,000,000 parts rock.
  2. It takes between 1 billion and 3.3 billion years for a diamond to grow. The oldest diamond is approximately 3.2 billion years old and the youngest is over 900 million years old.
  3. Diamonds are very rare. Of five million diamonds mined, only one million are jewelry quality. Of these one million, only 1 diamond will be 1ct or more. .01% of jewelry quality diamonds are considered to be colored diamonds, 60% of which are fancy yellow.
  4. The largest rough diamond ever found, 3106.75ct, was cut into 105 diamonds including the Cullinan I, 503.2ct (the largest colorless diamond in the world), and the Cullinan II. Both diamonds are now part of the British Crown Jewels.
